Dunn-Rite Services Tech Tipz
From time to time we will provide helpful hints to our loyal clients and
soon to be loyal clients. All information is deemed accurate, however no
warrantee is expressed or implied. If you have any questions, please contact us and
we will provide you with an expert at a reasonable rate!
1. How do you find the user of a client/server iSeries job?
2. Running SSA's BPCS C/S and getting PC Clients that are "hanging" or timing out"?
3. I downloaded a BMR from SSA's FTP site. Now what?
4. How do I get cgidev2?
5. Dunn-Rite Services is GREAT, but is there a news group that supports cgidev2?
1. How do you find the user of a client/server iSeries job?
Running "fat clients" like SSA's BPCS C/S or VA/RPG? Execute the following command from a 5250 session: WRKOBJLCK QSYS/yourprofile *USRPRF |
| Substitute the User Profile of the person who signed in on the PC for
"yourprofile". |
| This should display all active jobs that the User Profile has on the Iseries
making it a little easier to find the associated server jobs. |
2. Running SSA's BPCS C/S and getting PC Clients that are "hanging" or timing out"?
| Time to check the server job:. Display your System Operators Messages(from a 5250 session; DSPMSG QSYSOPR or
SYSRQS 6). If a server program has encountered an unrecoverable error, it may not
be able to communicate that fact to the Client. By default, the batch server jobs
should report such failures to the System Operators Message Queue. |
3. I downloaded a BMR from SSA's FTP site. Now what?
|
One of the best ideas SSA has had about distributing program fixes(BMR's) is
through their FTP site. This saves their clients a lot of time and SSA a lot of
money on media and shipping. The only catch is you have to have your Iseries
configured for TCP/IP. While TCP/IP is a great addition to the iSeries it does need
to be configured, secured and administered. If you do not have your iSeries
configured for TCP/IP(SNADS either for that matter) you can still transfer SAVF's using
IBM's Client Access: |
After you have unzipped the SAVF on your PC, use Windows Explorer to access your
Iseries folder system(\\youras400\QDLS\anyfolderyouwant). Simply drag the SAVF from
the PC to the Iseries Folder of your choice. |
| Start a 5250 session on the Iseries. At a command line execute the
following commands(filling in the lower case words with their proper values): CRTPF FILE(QGPL/SAVF) RCDLEN(528) MBR(SAVF) SIZE(*NOMAX)
CPYFRMSTMF FROMSTMF(´QLDS/anyfolderyouwant/yoursavfname´)
TOMBR(´/QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB/SAVF.FILE/SAVF.MBR´) MBROPT(*REPLACE) CVTDTA(*NONE)
ENDLINFMT(*FIXED) TABEXPN(*NO)
SNDNETF FILE(QGPL/SAVF) TOUSRID((QUSER QUSER))
CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/yoursavfname) AUT(*ALL)
RCVNETF FROMFILE(SAVF) TOFILE(QGPL/yoursavfname)
USER(QUSER) |
